Maybe it's just a Navy thing but if you only have three wheels, how can you have FWD? I don't know, I was Air Force and we needed four wheels to have FWD (seem only natural as F=Four W=Wheel and D=Drive)?One of the Navy's 3 wheel FWD rear steer jeep conversions, I remember racing them about 20 years after that picture was taken around NAS's!

They actually reversed the engine and transmission and relocated the rear axle to the front, they were rear steer with the 1 rear wheel. the conversions were done in the late 1940's or early 1950's. they usually had a electrical generator mounted to them for starting the early jet engines. By the time I was around them they were mostly retired to the Navel Air Stations and used as electrical power carts.
