I've always wondered why other jets with the same engine, the J-57, never had the same heat effect as the F-100. The F-8 and F-1O2 come to mind.
I had read that section of the fuselage got so hot paint blistered off. If that was factual, why the F-100 and nothing else? At least that's what I read in MAD Magazine.Paint? Both those models were usually painted in service.
The after section of the hun was heat shield and if painted would burn off. Most of the time it was not painted in the paint shop but many when they got their SEA paint scheme it just burnt off leaving interesting paint scarring on the aft. The aft section was designed to get hot. Made of stainless steel it received extreme heat and discoloration stress would develop. Multi colored heat marks were common.The French F-100s were all painted with the three tone camouflage between 1972 and 1976.
Before that they were bare metal and however the discolorations was already apparent.

I've always found the MiG 19 to be the most attractive of the MiGs, better than the 21, 17, and 15. Performance wise, not so much.F6 from the No 19 squadron before being equipped with F7P's FACB
