Another shot of the McDonnell V-1 Jeep. The tips of the rotors have rocket-shaped nozzles that served to direct the pressurized exhaust for propulsion. Musta been noisy, although not nearly as bad as the choppers powered by wingtip ramjets.

My high school classmate, fellow Civil Air Patrol Cadet member was a mechanic on these in Laos when we were "not there". He survived the period and returned home after a career in USAF, lives not far from me. In 1959, at High school grad, he was turned down for USAF because he was too tall and thin for his body weight. He immediately joined the ANG and after six months he transferred to USAF going to Keesler AFB for engine mechanic school, just what he wanted in the beginning. He has many stories of his time in V.N. He always stressed to me that the plane was a T-28D-5, which meant it could carry all the ordinance shown.
