They were DeHavilland Spectre DSpe.4 rockets and cancelled after a single trial take-off of a Victor from the de Havilland aerodrome at Hatfield.

Close but no cigar. The B-58 was an impressive beast but those sticky-out engines will always lose out to the awesome, cohesive lines of the Vulcan. I doubt it was quite so aerobatic either, despite being smaller.

And it didn't howl.

Not an avid poster here, but regular reader. Time to post some of my collection. As a kid I wrote USN and USAF squadrons asking for pictures, and many replied sending photos and sometimes even patches. These will end up in the bin when I die, so better share them now while I still can.
