This and the one after are TWIN-seat A-4s - the ones Singapore bought were converted to trainers from single-seat examples with a unique separate cockpit layout.

We live on the perimeter of a parachuting club/school. About three years ago we came home to find an unopened chute in the garden.

Yikes.

Ok Terry, airplanes are designed for you to takeoff and than land in them. Jumping out of a perfectly good plane is abnormal and should be avoided at all costs.
It's great fun.

More related to this photo. It shows SGT George Hale and his 77SQN Meteor "Halestorm" aircraft after his shooting down of a MiG 15 aircraft on 27 March 1953.

SGT Hale arrived in Japan in late 1952 and converted to the Meteor in Japan in only 2 weeks. In mid December he joined 77 Squadron at the base at Kimpo. He called his aircraft Halestorm having the name emblazoned underneath the cockpit on the aircrafts fuselage.

On 27 March, Hale and SGT David Irlam were on a routine reconnaissance mission over North Korea when they saw and engaged two MiG fighters. As Hale dived into attack, he then identified another two enemy aircraft. In the ensuing dogfight, Irlam's aircraft was damaged and returned to base. However, Hale destroyed one enemy aircraft and then after being confronted by another pair of MiGs, scored hits on one of these as well. Having used all his ammunition in the engagement, Hale broke off contact and returned to base. This was the last time that 77 Squadron aircraft engaged in aerial combat in Korea, and the last air to air engagement that the RAAF has been involved in to this date.

In all, Hale completed 131 combat missions in Korea returning home in June 1953.

Today, the cockpit of Hale's Meteor Jet 'Halestorm' is on display at the South Australian Aviation Museum, Port Adelaide.
