The USAF BOMARC CIM-10 long range surface to air interceptor missile. It had a liquid fueled rocket engine in the tail that boosted it aloft to where the ramjets on either side could start working. It cruised at 2000 mph and had a much longer range than missiles such as the US Army's Nike Ajax. After it was phased out of service in the early 1970's the ramjets were removed and a more powerful rocket engine installed so it could be used as a supersonic target, with many launched from Vandenberg AFB toward the south where the USN's Pacific Missile Test Center would try to shoot them down.
