Project Emily installed 60 Douglas SM-75 Thor IRBM in bases under RAF control in the East Anglia area of the UK. This was a hasty stop gap measure to deter the Soviets from using their barely "operational" SS-6 Sapwood ICBM's until the Atlas CGM-16D could be made operational in the USA. The Thors were returned to the USA and employed as space boosters and for research and ASAT purposes, the last mission being launched in 1980. One Thor was used to detonate a nuclear weapon in space as part of an experiment to determine if the VAn Allen Belts could be used to fry incoming ballistic missile warheads as a form of defense.

This sure looks like AI tampering to me. Whether the side lettering is meant to be XB-52 or YB-52, both the first and last characters are wrong. The word "BOEING" above it is just random blobs, which at this resolution ought to be readable letters, and ditto for the "SUPERFORTRESS" underneath. "AIR FORCE" is also not there. Wrong number of canopy frames, and one or two other little details. On the other hand, the background and even the figures in the foreground look better than you'd expect with AI.

I thought the B2 was painted black and only one was built, it cold fly low down: XD823 was the very first Vickers Valiant painted in a special gloss "anti-flash" white finish, designed to reflect the intense heat radiation of a nuclear explosion.
