I would like to read some books discussing the US Strategic Bombing of Germany.
I prefer analysis rather than many anecdotal stories about bomber XYZs flight to ABC.
I want to learn about the air war, and there can be some personal stories, but I don't want books that are mainly focused on missions by a crew.
The movie "Masters of the Air" was fine, but I wouldn't want a book like that. I want a description of the campaign and an analysis.

There is actually a book of masters of the air, but if you don't want that another great book is the strategic bombing of germany by alan levine, and your best resource would probably be the us strategic bombing survey.

Levine's book is excellent, although on the slightly dry side. Another good read is Tami Davis Biddle's 'Rhetoric And Reality In Air Warfare. The Evolution Of British And American Ideas About Strategic Bombing'.

But don't forget aircrew. They made it happen, and paid an appalling price for it. If you are near a quality library try to get your hands on a military dissertation titled "Aircrew Survival Rates in Bomber Command and the Eighth Air Force: An Investigation into the Question of Bearable Casualty Rates, 1 February 1942 – 19 April 1944", by James Martin Szpajcher. Makes for very sombre, and grim, reading.

And the two best books on the subject that provide excellent detail on the power and growth of the bombing war over Europe are:
Air War Europa Chronology by Eric Hammel (US focused)
The Bomber Command War Diaries by Martin Middlebrook (RAF focused)

Thank you all for your recommendations. I will read them.

I have nothing against stories about individual pilots or crews; they are fascinating, but I want to get a deeper understanding of the Strategic Bombing offensive by the US against Germany.

USSBS - You might not agree completely in their final analyses, but more reading than you'll ever want
