How accurate is the performance information in the Profile Publications Aircraft series?

These?

Akuma, I think they would be manufacturer's brochure figures, as Shortround6 beautifully put it once - for "public consumption."
I think it was Roy Braybrook who said the same thing for the Putnam series.

I was under the impression that Putnam was using information that the Smithsonian provided as far as their aircraft information was concerned.

4th profile down in your posted image, Graeme, appears to be the XP-65.

Inside - they label it as the Grumman XF7F-1 prototype.

My Putnams, going as far back as 1958, make no mention of Smithsonian - nor can I see why they would. Dunno bout the more 'modern' ones.
