I guess everyone has heard of the shooting in Sydney Australia and many have seen the video of the man who took down one of the shooters and ended up with bullet wounds for his actions.

Well the problem certainly includes guns: countries with no/little gun ownership have little/no gun crime. So stop gaslighting yourself and admit it: removal of all guns from private ownership is the only way this will stop. All guns.

No it will only change the weapons of choice.

I used to hunt and have no issues with guns in responsible hands.

The problem here is the person who commits a gun crime gets a "naughty boy/girl" and the gun gets a death sentence.

The country with the second most number of guns per head of population (Switzerland) has the lowest gun crime rate because it deals with the crim, not the weapon.

They also keep guns out of untrained and mentally defective peoples hands

I agree with some of what you say but still support guns for responsible people.

Filtering them is an issue admittedly and it does not change the fact that crims can always get guns. Now they can even print them.

As I said before, banning guns will only change the weapon of choice. In the state of Victoria the favourite weapon now is the machete.

Todays news includes a murder by bow and arrow.

The only deterrent is suitable sentences. Life with no chance of parole for most murders would help but some will always think they are too smart to get caught.
