Looks like a lot tasty treats for forum members this Holiday Season. Mine started in November with my birthday present to myself... sometimes you just gotta do it.

A few days before Christmas, I got this surprise from a modeler on another site.

And recently, I've pulled the trigger on two bigger scale kits:

Some fun projects to look forward to in 2018!

Picked up these bad boys at Aviation World in Toronto when I went to the airport to pick up my daughter-in-law. Don't have a P-40 in the stash but now I have two with some pretty nice colour schemes to consider. These bad boys were sitting in a discount bin so for just over $30.00 cdn I walked out of the store with them both. I now wish I had have grabbed the other two even though there were no decals with them. I have more than enough on these two sheets to have covered it. Having said that, Mother Superior casts a scornful eye at the ever increasing stack of polystyrene that sits in the basement corner waiting to make it to the work bench.

These are under the Hobby Craft name but are the old AMT/Ertl kits from a few years back.I have since read some on line reviews and they supposedly make up into a pretty good looking kite when all is said and done. Should be plenty of after market stuff should I choose to go that route. I had a quick peek and the landing gear legs look pretty lame and perhaps a new seat and some belts would make this look a whole lot better. I will have to search the spares box for a ring and bead gun site as well although I don't recall there being one ( or two )

Anyhow, these are my new purchases.

ps. That black checker tail looks kinda sexy although I am kind of partial to desert camo but the OD green is such a classic.....what is a boy to do?

Cheers,

Jeff

Nice find there Jeff !
New-style packaging - have Hobbycraft returned to the market then ?
Don't think so. The decals have a 2008 date on them and the original price sticker looks like they have been around a long time. I get the feeling these have been lost in the backroom of the store and have just recently found their way to the bargain bin.

AeroMaster has a set of decals that cover this black and red P-40. Their notes indicate that the ship was painted as such for publicity flights only and never flew operationally. It was flown by Lt. Col. R L Baseler of the 325 FG of the 12 AF.

Cheers,

Jeff

Is it possible to upload files into the machine?

JKim, Ben Long writes great user friendly books on these cameras if you need or are looking for easy instructions. I have a XSi and a 6D and have his books on both.

Yes. That was the deal breaker feature as I did not want to be bound to the canned software and templates. The Cricut "Design Space" is a very basic graphic design interface that enables you to manipulate graphics files into a "printable" form and is the means by which a design is translated to the cutter machine so it needs to be used. However, it is not good for drawing shapes in free form. If you want to design masks, like I will do, it will be better to do that in a program like Adobe Illustratator or even Paint. The designs made by those other programs can then be opened in the Design Space and sent to the cutter. It will handle most graphic file types so is flexible enough for what I want to do.

Thank you sir! I think I've got a handle on this beast! I'm moving from a 7D which replaced an XTi. Prior to buying the 5DIV, I've used a 5DIII and a 1DX enough to get familiar with my lenses on a full frame body. But I'll keep that in mind!

Great pickup Jeff. I had the one on the right and built it somewhere in a Start to Finish thread. The checkers on the tail worked great, fitting almost perfectly. The red flash at the front.....not so much. I totally botched them as they kept folding over on themselves and finally ripping. I think cutting them in half or even into 3 pieces might be a better option

I don't think I will do the red and black ship as it was a PR stunt and not operational. I am leaning towards the OD green checker tail for the one and the RAF dessert camo for the other.

Cheers,

Jeff
