Yep, JG53 certainly had a lot of different camouflage schemes.

These have just arrived. Couldn't find 1/48th scale Luftwaffe black codes anywhere, and my old sheet is depleted, so got these, in 1/72nd scale, designed as under-wing codes, but ideal for fuselage codes on Luftwaffe bombers. Double sheet, in 15 mm and 16 mm.

Nice Terry. As mentioned many times before elsewhere, I'm surprised a decal maker hasn't taken a real effort to make Luftwaffe codes and W.Nr.. Kitsworld makes some numbers as does Peddinghaus but these are very generic

Yes, it is rather surprising. I've been able to find various coloured number sheets, and there are sheets for 'winkels' and other unit markings etc, but code letters and other common markings are not so well covered in 1/48th or 1/32nd scales as they used to be some years ago..
For Werke nummer, I use the digits from a sheet designed for small-scale wargames vehicles, which I believe is still available from Xtradecal (the flags are useful for 'kill' markings too), or the smaller numbers from one of the Xtradecal RAF 1/72nd scale sheets, available in black and in white.
I've often had to check the required size, and then see what can be found in other scales to suit, as with the code letters above.
