Mustard and meatballs. Yummy!In the letter section of my "Our Army at War" comic book (Sergeant Rock), one fan asked "What colors were Japanese planes painted?
The response was "a yellow mustard color ".
This was in 1963 or 64. I never forgot it. I like mustard.
I'll check my info over the weekend Don, but offhand I think all RNZAF F4U-1Ds atleast were in the the overall Glossy Sea Blue scheme originally, which rapidly faded to a patchy Matt finish in theatre.
Earlier versions could, and were, repainted from time to time, so you could also see previously US Navy 3-tone scheme birds being repainted in one of around 7 different RNZAF repaint schemes. Just to make it awkward
