In the letter section of my "Our Army at War" comic book (Sergeant Rock), one fan asked "What colors were Japanese planes painted?
The response was "a yellow mustard color ".
This was in 1963 or 64. I never forgot it. I like mustard.

I'll check my info over the weekend Don, but offhand I think all RNZAF F4U-1Ds atleast were in the the overall Glossy Sea Blue scheme originally, which rapidly faded to a patchy Matt finish in theatre.
Earlier versions could, and were, repainted from time to time, so you could also see previously US Navy 3-tone scheme birds being repainted in one of around 7 different RNZAF repaint schemes. Just to make it awkward

Recents today.

I have wanted these for sometime. They were sold out for a time, but it was great to get them at what they are priced at, $11 better than $20. However, as I really had a look at them , I noticed that Part No.2 aircraft has an error. AII-256 is not Zuikaku's number, but Akagi's. While researching number I ran across this great japanese site that has Houkokugou listings (if that is of interest to you), pretty cool.

This aircraft was assigned a Houkoku Gou (Navy Patriotic Presentation Number). Donated by a private donor who paid for one of each type of aircraft in Navy service. Assigned Houkoku Gou 522 (Patriotic Presentation Number 522) in black on both sides of the rear fuselage.

I can see how the error could occur if you weren't familiar with the tail numbers being different for each carrier.

For many years I have had this kit given to me by a friend, but it has always been without instructions.
Now they can be found on the internet, but seeing this box again made me relive those moments...
Who knows one day I will build it.

After a month and ten days my other kit arrived from the Ukraine. Decals had been destroyed, which delayed shipping.

Re the M32 Jan and Bernie - we could do a mini GB build... I have one (under the workbench at moment) with Kiwi markings.
(2 lots of spare US markings too if you guys want a change from the ones in your kits)

It's a gorgeous kit. I wanted to get a second one and then this popped up, so I had to get it. I have the decals for the Otsu-1, which has four or five options to build a different unit. I try to get the unusual or uncommon kits when it comes to Japanese aircraft. The D.510 is rare one, so I was happy to get one.
