The remains of a California airman missing in action from World War II were buried Thursday at Arlington National Cemetery, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.
Sgt. Robert J Stinson of San Bernadino disappeared with 10 other servicemen in 1944 when their B-24 bomber was shot down while on a bombing mission near the island nation of Palau.
The wreckage of the plane and the remains of eight crew members were discovered in 2004 on the ocean floor near Palau. Three of the crew members were believed to have survived the crash and died while prisoners of the Japanese.
