Very cool sets of photos. That is the French aviators who flew with the VVS in the first set, correct? (The squadron name escapes me at this early hour.)
On the last photo of the second set: is that a Yak 1? And the animal on the side...I'm thinking a badger, maybe?

What does the writing on the fuselage say?

I can read Cyrillics, but don't quite understand Russian so my interpretation would be something like this:

"To the pilot of Stalingrad front
Major of the Guard Eremin
from kolhozniks of "Stahanovec" kolhoz..."

I can't quite understand the last line though. Maybe it's the name of some "tovarisch".
