I'm needing some Sqn code help for either of these Mk.IX Spits for this build. Have pilots, serials and Sqn. These are my screen shots of data. Can anyone come up with codes when they were lost???? TIA!!!!

the info...

Just a note .... it seems the MJ928 served in the no. 421 Squadron (not the no.126 squadron but the no. 126 Wing RCAF). Pilot - Flying Officer J F Davidson. The Spitfire was hit by a flak and abandoned on the 21st May 1944. The pilot bailed out and was taken prisoner, the POW nr. 5785, camp Stalag Luft L3 Sagan and Belaria. The aircraft was coded AU-Q

Posted by Andy ... Mk.IX Spitfire-421 Sqn 1944 specifically!

Surfer I suspissioned you would be the one to come thru with the goods!
Brilliant as always. Thank you.

I agree. That's my initial thought. But I found on another site with serials for the no. 401 Squadron Spitfires and the MJ128 can't be found on the list while the MJ428 is mantioned. Certainly it could be a mistake or just a typo. Anyway the squadron code letters should be "YO".

RCAF ORBs have plenty of typos in them so tread lightly.

On the same ORB for 28/6/44, MJ428 shows up as being flown by M.H. Havers so it's likely not a typo for MJ128, the one supposedly flown by Davidson. There is no MJ128 listed on ops the days before so I suspect that number is bogus.

OK, so both are correct.

AND

MJ428 Only served with 401 Squadron.

MJ928 Served with 403 Squadron then 421 Squadron.

In regards to MJ128, that aircraft only served with 72 Squadron, and was sent for storage 21st December 1944, Nothing further known.

The above can be found in Air Britain 's RAF Serial number Publication MA100 - MZ999.
