A new documentary is on Amazon Prime about the Spitfire. I think its extremely well made. There are many interviews with people with first hand accounts, either pilots, designers, even the daughter of the first test pilot. And of course many scenes of the remaining aircraft in the Battle of Britain Flight. It also has what is thought to be the only voice recording of RJ Mitchell. I'm glad the movie was made, in 10 or even 5 years the people might not be here to interview.

I will spoil the plot and tell you the ending, the Spitfire was one of the most beautiful aircraft ever made.

Spitfire is the epic tale of the world's most famous fighter plane, told by the last surviving veterans who flew her in the white heat of combat. Some say she saved the world, and today she is an international icon.

Thanks for the info pinehilljoe.

There are so many Spitfire stories and documentaries now. It would be nice to see one that involved two of the most important guys; Jeffrey Quill and Alex Henshaw. They along with Joe Smith had everything to do with this plane and it's development.

Re the P-51: I also hope they include the very important key element which made the fundamental change to this great plane: Two pilots from Boscombe down that were flying together; one in a Spitfire Mk V and the other in an Allison engined (A-36?). ...They set the same power settings and found the Mustang (Apache?) was considerably faster. This guy wrote a letter which is printed in one of the pages of the book ''The Merlin Mustang''** (Rolls Royce Heritage Trust) to show the consequence of this simple letter.
I am going by memory as I loaned this book to someone and it was never returned. It's an exceptional book which gives the real story and the work involved that went into it not just by RR but Packard also.

**Edit: The book I was referring to is titled ''Rolls-Royce And The Mustang'' [RR Heritage Trust ISBN10 0951171003]

Bought the DVD and did a review of it about three weeks ago, in the "New books"threads.
Excellent documentary, with stunning film work.
Same team are producing a similar video about the P-51, "American Warhorse", due for release summer 2020.
I went and looked it up after your review and yes it is good ;) Kevin

No, Amazon Prime, the movie streaming service. The film may not be available up here. Netflix has different (read worse than U.S.) content in Canada as well.

Andy, try to get the DVD in the correct format for N.America / Canada, as there is a lot more on it than I guess will be shown on Amazon / Netflix - over four hours of footage !
I got a copy for around £6.

I might have it. Just not sure what Spitfire movie is being talked about here. I have this:

Hey, what was the year it was released?

Thanks!

No, that's not it Andy.
See my Post #7, 181, on page 360 of "A new book in my library" - this shows the DVD cover, and a brief review.
It was released in summer, 2018.

Watched on Prime tonight!

Aside from a bit of the expected hyperbole it's a great documentary. But the worlds greatest fighter? Nah, everyone here knows that was the P-39!
