Look at the thread about anti-tank armor penetration and you'll see it's the same. Thirty caliber ball ammo hitting plate any almost any angle other that 90 degrees will bounce off! And any appreciable armor thickness will flatten even a straight on hit. The same logic in that thread concerning anti tank projectiles and armor works for planes too!! Think about it.

and yes les is pretty much right as to why we liked the .303 so much... baisically we were shitting out the .303 round like there's no tomorrow, so they figured we might as well keep using the .303, plus the RAF didn't like the idea of a middle calibre weapon too much, it's either small with large rate of fire (.303) or large and capable of more damage, the 20mm..............
