So far so good 😁 if anyone has any advice for the exhaust colour I would be grateful, galvanised steel comes to mind which I think is grey but would they be heat stained like a modern motorbike? Please let me know what you think, thanks in advance

Using Alclad semi matt aluminium as a starting point on the exhaust but I need to bite the bullet and glue the engine nacelles to the wings,,,,,,,,,,,, maybe tomorrow. 😬

Now those stencils are very cool!!!! Wonder if you can get similar items in 1/48? Excellent work Pete, I wish I had the skill to be able to build and detail as subassemblies and still have it look realistic once assembled (sighs...). :thumbleft:
Thanks Man, I think I would struggle with 1/48 scale stencils and I'm sure if you build this kit from Tamiya your sub assemblys would be as good as mine because it's mainly down to Tamiyas skill at kit design

Next up for a coat of Tamiya X-18 semi gloss black, my primer coat are the props and the Tamiya exhaust for the closed up engine. I'm afraid I know very little about how the propeller blades would look on a well used in service aircraft but I'm sure someone here maybe able to help 🤔

Watching your skills with an air brush is impressive. Prop wear and tear was fairly generic and although this is a P-40, the wear patterns would be similar on the Mossie. Note the indiscriminate nature of chipping on the yellow tip and blades inboard of the leading edge, on which of course, the paint would be worn down to natural metal, but note how speckly it is, like little impacts rather than a smooth wear pattern. The prop is unrestored, not just mocked up, either - this is a worn propeller.

Fantastic picture thanks, of note is the yellow worn to black and all the way down to the aluminium,,, let's see if I can do that realistically
