Tamiya F4F-4 1/48

Completed F4F in Marine colors. I still need to mount stretch sprue antenna. I have to relearn my stretched sprue technique, its been many years. Exterior paint colors are from the Valejo USN aircraft set of paints, sprayed with an Iwata NEO. Canopy was masked by hand and sprayed in place on the model.

The Tamiya kits practically build themselves. I'm nostalgic for the older Monogram kits, but these Tamiyas are sweet. Next is either Tamiya's Beufighter or P-38

I was in the Bay Area in March for business and had time to visit Hornet, and took a few photos of the museum's F4F, wish I had taken more.

Just saw that Mr. Tamiya departed the pattern last month.
yes, he made a great contribution to the Hobby, and under his leadership Tamiya all but created the RC Car phenomena. I think the RC side had its roots with the RC 1/16 Sherman in the 70's, I dreamed of that in High School but too expensive for me.
