Technical Manuals People are looking for (1 Viewer)

Hi everyone, I've been looking for illustrated parts breakdowns of the B-36 and B-52 bombers for model construction reference, but I haven't found any on eBay or aircraft-reports. I only found auction records on worthpoint.com. I think perhaps someone here has seen them; thank you in advance!

Looks like it's not digitised; site says contact staff for access (in-person visit most likely)

Does anyone know if they can borrow this to scan, or can I scan it myself?

Just to be difficult I am searching for any RAF (or Commonwealth) publications on the Doping (meaning painting of fabric) on aircraft.

I have AP 3042A Standard Technical Training Notes dated 1941 but it only has a few pages on the topic. I also have the RAAF Fitters IIA Course Notes dated 1941 which are equally brief.

Ideally I am chasing AD (Air Diagram) 2390 Aircraft Dopes and Finishes and any other RAF (or RAAF/RCAF/RNZAF/SAAF/etc) publication on the subject.

Alternatively I would accept a copy of USAAF/USN Tech Order 01-1A-11 Fabric repair and doping dated EARLIER than my copy which is dated 1946-01-04 and revised 1951-04-16. A copy of the 1946 edition minus the 1951 revisions would even help.

Thanks in advance

Mi

Hey MiTasol,

I think you have to look for different designations for earlier US manuals on fabric and doping subjects.

"TM 1-417 Aircraft Fabric Work and Application of Finishes" is a pre-WWII and war-time manual on the subject, revised several times, published by the US War Department. I thnk the last revision was in late-1944, but am not sure.

Unfortunately, I do not know where you can find a digital or hard copy. :(

Thanks for that tip. According to a web search aircorpslibrary.com have a copy. I will check it out in the morning. Us oldies need our ugly sleep.

I needed to know what the Mk.V firewall looked like so I could replicate the shape for the replacement of a firewall for the 109G Daimler Benz engine and motor mounts. But now I know how it looks at the front of the wing spar mounting section. So now I know I have to replicate the wing spar center section at the bottom of the firewall. Cool.

Hi!
Sorry to come so late to this. I have a feeling that the Germans used a late Bf 110 type engine installation for their re-engined Spitfire? Certainly, I think that the cowling without oil cooler was more like the 110 parts.

Cheers

I have three leads on AD 2390 Aircraft Dopes and Finishes in this mornings inbox so I will see how those develop first.

One lead was for a British publication that I had never heard of The ground engineers manual printed annually from 39 to at least 1941. From the number printed in March 41 nd the original owner putting his name and rank on the cover page it would appear the RAF may have been using it as a text.

The extract I was sent contained all the information I needed except it is not an official mil pub.

A good clean digital copy is available from Aircraft Fabric Work and Application of Finishes
