I've got one of these, built in 1926. Here is the Profile on it, which is available for free on-line. It is the coolest gun, ever. I was amused to see the Japanese pilot using one in the opening scne of King cong Skull Island but later found out that it was indeed the favorite firearm of Japanese fighter pilots in WWII.

I bought one of those at our Babenhausen Rod & Gun Club for $25 in '62. This thing was a paradox; you could certainly tell that it had been designed by Mauser, a rifle maker. The hammer fall inertia lifted up the light barrel end up and disturbed the aim. Moreover, the light, snaky barrel was difficult to hold steady. On the other hand, that 7.63 Mauser cartridge was a hot round and the overall sinister looks of the Broomhandle Mauser scored style points. In old movies, they were always carried by shadowy Gestapo agents or Chinese bandits.

The amazing thing about the Broomhandle is how you could have all that metal moving back and forward and not have it screw up your aim entirely. I think its got more going on in that respect than a Garand,
Mine was rechambered for 9MM Parabellum. The 7.62X25MM round was adopted by the USSR for their Tokarev TT33 as well as the PPSH submachine gun, but it is loaded much hotter than the same sized Mauser 7.63 and will tear up the C96.
Han Solo's blaster is clearly a C96 with some fake parts added. That was a clever thing to do, use an actual gun design instead of a modified TV remote or electric shaver or something.

All the weapons in Star Wars are based on actual weapons.
Han Solo's DL-44 "Blaster", which is actually an Imperial weapon, is a modified C96 with the scope taken from an M4 Sherman gunsight (M19), which, by the way, was also used on the Imperial Stormtrooper's E-11 blaster.
The E-11, is a modified Sterling SMG.

The Stormtrooper's shouldered Heavy Weapon is a Lewis MG without the drum mag. and retained the water jacket.

I think I listed most of the actual weapons Lucas modified for the movie on another thread ages ago, and it's a long one!

At the beginning, the Broom was developed without any instruction by Mauser engineers. As a rifle supplier Paul Mauser was at first upset when he was informed of a pistol project.
As for its success in China, do not forget the copies supplied by Spanish gunmakers (Astra, Beistegui Hermanos, Unceta y Compaña), that were also of high quality. The locally made Chinese copies were also very well made.

I got a round stuck in my C96 and dismantled it to get it out. In the process I accidentally discovered how to make the weapon fire only when it is held upside down. I consulted a "phantom view" of it I found in a book to figure out what I did wrong.

I had one of those once. It was neat in many ways but even after I had the barrel relined, it still couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from the inside I managed to sell it for a neat profit though

Nice stock on the M1a mines a standard.I have been looking to add some Japanese to the collection just tough to find with Mums and nice condition.My latest to the collection was MP40 in 9mm semi but got the right sling.

Regarding the defaced mums, a friend returning from pacific just after WW2, USN, said there were so many bringing back rifles, the official defacing could not keep up, so grinding wheels and vises and chisels were set out and the individual was to deface the mum himself. That is why some had chisel marks and some grinding. I was told there were not enough people checking the work, so some were lightly ground.

As close family friend gave my Stepad an IJN Type 99 rifle that he had captured during one of his island battles in the PTO.
The fit and finish of the Arisaka was extraordinary and it had a highly detailed chrysanthemum on the safety knob.

For some reason, shortly before he passed away, my Stepdad sold it.

Whilst watching the Mandalorian i noticed Cara Doone's blaster rifle was obviously based on the BREN but with twin under and over barrel and saddle magazines from an Mg 15 This got me thinking of what other movie and TV weapons are your favourites ? Some of mine This from the TV series...

Interesting piece but I think that serrated trigger might take some getting use to.

The serrations in all places are fairly fine and not really noticeable except for visually.
I have not shot this gun much. The trigger is quite heavy for such a small gun.

My Grandmother's Savage Model 1907 .32 Auto (manufactured in 1917) is perhaps the tightest action out of all of my semi-auto pistols I own.
