Hello again Escuadrilla Azul !
And thanks a lot for the extra info!
Yes, there are some errors in Mattioli's book, but IMHO fewer than in many others and no fundamental errors.
The sad truth is that there are errors in almost all books and some give a downright misleading picture of their subject.

It's my pleasure.

Here are the colour profiles and photos. Sorry about the quality, some are screenshots.

Thinking about the different colours in the aircraft numbers, it could be that they reflect different squadriglias within the stormo. IIRC, it was an usual practice un the Regia Aeronáutica.

Perhaps either Vincenzo Vincenzo or Elmas Elmas could bring some light to the whole camo schemes.

In the collage, above is the colour profile from Infiesta book (made by Luis Fresno Crespo), down the profile from Mattioli's (made by Richard Caruana).

Edited to delete a duplicated photo.

And thanks a lot for the photos! Especially for the 2 first b&w photos of real planes, IIRC I have not seen them before. I am personally most interesting in operational and technical matters but I know that some are interested in those colour profiles, so I try to write something about them too in my reviews if i have some other sources to which I can compare them.

All three photos came from the Ali d'Italia book.

I was looking at your web sites and book reviews, they are very good and elaborate, point the good, the bad and the ugly (excuse for the film reference, I will take my coat ). They are the kind of reviews I appreciate.

Hello Escuadrilla Azul
Thank you for your kind words and it was nice to learn more about the actions of the Italians during the Spanish Civil War. Although I have not actively studied it for decades, some interest has remained. On the fighter side, I think the best book I've read on the subject during the last 15 years has been Logoluso's Fiat CR Aces of the Spanish Civil War (Osprey A/c of the Aces 94). He has at least partially compared the claims of the CR.32 pilots with the actual losses of the Republicans, so the reader gets a truer picture of their accomplishments.
