I love the looks of this plane. I understand it was difficult fly and wasn't to be sold on the civilian market. I don't know how true that
The Curtiss "Jeep" was purposely designed to be difficult to fly, so students would be able to handle twin aircraft like the P-38.why wouldn't it in the color pic its obvious its a fringing hanger queen
A similar requirement philosophy resulted in the Northrop T-38 - designed to prepare pilots for Century-series fighters. The Curtiss "Jeep" was purposely designed to be difficult to fly, so students would be able to handle twin aircraft like the P-38.
Because of that trait, no flyable airframes were offered to the public.
The only two surviving AT-9 (including the one in the color photo) were cobbled together from wrecks.
Just to clarify for anyone, this is a DC-5. Not an Douglas RD-3. Its the "RD3-1 DC-5"Douglas RD3-1View attachment 858600
The Swedes used the P-35! and they also used a larger two seater version of the P-35 as a light bomber, (well they were going to, but only two were delivered before the US prevented any more shipments)Frank Fullers Seversky S-2 1938,View attachment 858611
