why wouldn't it in the color pic its obvious its a fringing hanger queen
The Curtiss "Jeep" was purposely designed to be difficult to fly, so students would be able to handle twin aircraft like the P-38.

Because of that trait, no flyable airframes were offered to the public.

The only two surviving AT-9 (including the one in the color photo) were cobbled together from wrecks.

A similar requirement philosophy resulted in the Northrop T-38 - designed to prepare pilots for Century-series fighters.

Douglas O-38 California Air National Guard.....From the end of WWI till the start of WWII USAAC doled out the Observation roll to the Air National Guard, 19 NG squdrons filled that spot.

Just to clarify for anyone, this is a DC-5. Not an Douglas RD-3. Its the "RD3-1 DC-5"
