Texas Hill Country is in deep trouble. Guadalupe River rose 30 feet in 45 minutes. 13 dead so far and 20 kids missing at Camp Mystic. There are over 750 kids and staff currently at that camp. National Guard, DPS and virtually every helo they can get in there is on search and rescue right now. They're helo shuttling everyone to Kerrville as fast as possible.
 
Just looked at the river data...Flow is climbing past 120,000 CFS.....that's like 82 Olympic pools per second going past the gauge tower.....

Went back and looked to see if any updates and noticed that the readings stopped and the gauge went offline at 4:30 this morning.....That reading is almost 12 hours old and the river is still climbing.

... and it's pissing down here again. After an afternoon break of a few hours, the rain started up again and has been going since 7:30 pm local at (if I had to guess) about 1/2" per hour.

We're about 50 miles ENE of Kerrville, and they're in the direct line of traffic, so I know they've got it worse. Best wishes for them who are in the shitstorm.

I'm guessing we've had about 4" of rain in the last 24 hours, maybe 6" in the last two days. We live in good drainage and aren't worried for ourselves.

Intensifying boomers. We haven't had rain like this in six years or so.

Yep, it's still raining, and we have to have added another 3" to the rainfall totals, and the Pedernales River is once more bank-to-bank in its canyon. Looks like it's up at least two foot, maybe more. One of our oak trees got so waterlogged that it snapped at the stump and fell onto my truck. There doesn't appear to be anything more than cosmetic damage, but it'll cost me a couple of hundred to get it freed, as my chainsaw is electric and I don't have the cords long enough to power it.

On the bright side, it's pretty well protected if it decides to hail.
 
For those that are having a hard time imagining the water level changes, here's a link to a time lapse of a crossing on the LLano River, in the area, that afternoon. The river was already up, but I don't think it was in flood stage at that point. The video only covers about 30 minute of real time. The Guadalupe at Camp Mystic was probably three times the water height as this.

We saw a little bit of sunlight earlier this afternoon, but we're sitting under another gully-washer. It should let up not too long from now, and then a second wave around 6pm. Those poor people in Kerrville and Fred'burg are getting hammered again.

ETA: Lightning just hit about 500' away. Sounded like a bomb. ... and then now about 800'. We're at ground zero for right now.

It's been receding for the last hour, but radar shows another helping of piss-down coming along directly at us -- it's going slower than I expected, which is good for us but bad for the people under the stalling front.

We're in a good place, about midway down an inclined road that drains into the lake about 1/2 mile away, so that water doesn't have time to build up to where we are in the house.
