The cockpit shot brought back a story about a Civil Air Patrol Cadet foreign exchange tour to Spain. We recruit cadets were given accounts by the older cadets who went. They were transported around Spanish bases by Ju 52 and were amused by the flight checks which they could see in the cockpits. The crew chief busied himself starting engines, checking gauges and listening to the engine sounds through the two small open windows in the windshield. When he was satisfied, the crew chief tapped the pilot's shoulder, then pilot and copilot crossed themselves and opened the throttles.
