Wellington bomber makes an emergency landing in heavy ground fog on a meadow near the railway line The Hague-Leiden and in front of the ditch at the current Tuinenlaan and slightly south of the parking lot of the Noorthey cemetery.

Takeoff at 22:37 hrs for an operation to Hamburg.
Homeward-bound, the aircraft was shot up by night fighter pilot Hauptmann Paul Kratz of the II./NJG 2 and was force-landed on Sylt island.
One of the gunners, Podporucznik Strzelec (Pilot Officer) Bolesław Boguszewski, succumbed to his injuries.
