I love it when management gets an idea. This crap happened all the time when I worked in the paper mill. Monday mornings, a staff member would come into the mill with an idea he had a dream about and implement it. It usually took us until Wednesday to fix their idea back to normal. The last mill manager finally said no more Monday changes until its well thought out.....there were no more Monday changes after they were well thought out

1. Get all the useless crap you bought at auction out of the shop.
2. Fire all the deadwood. Hint - if their last name is on the front of the building, and they are not the owner...

The office has switched to a new inventory system and now we get to relabel every part in the shop.
They also want to map where every part is in the shop. It's a production shop! Parts move! They also want life cycle time studies for everything.

Obviously the boss has discovered AI and is stupid enough to believe it will improve things.

Microsoft in general. Why we all have to work with an OS that sucks (Windows) and after 30 years never moved to a better system (mac or linux) is beyond me. Updating is still not fixed after 30 years, it's slow, it shoved copilot on my face everywhere. And I still need anti mallware to keep my system safe. System suddenly gets unresponsive without any alerts.

The other MS products:
Everything MS created is slow and buggy. Running tests in C# takes an awful long time to start. Stacktrace is unreadable. Starting VisualStudio takes a century and when running is still slow as fu.

The Azure portal is an unholy mess. Can be down without warning.

Not even talking about Word and Powerpoint that people keep using for some incomprehensible reason.

I think the "Windows" is popular, because of several factors:

Tons of games, tons of programms, overall familiarity ans ease of acsess for average daily user!

But also has its own weaknesses, Scurity is the most important one.

On the other hand, Linux is generally for people whose work is around programming, it's a "work thing", and not very well for someone who knows nothing about it, how to use, how to install a program, etc. Also it lacks game variation, specially older games which are still popular, can't be run on Linux without assisting programs, but overally speaking, it's Safer.

I have no experience with mac things, sorry.

Many of the newer Linux variants are now as user friendly as Windows is and some even run a significant number of Windows programs.

I am in the process of transitioning to Zorin Linux and it happily runs a number of the Windows programs I have used for some time (in one case over 20 years). I do not play games so cannot comment on the ability to run those.

I have, until recently, stuck with Windows 7 because when I transitioned to Windows 10 I was one of the many who had all my data drives (D thru J at that stage) formatted by a Win 10 update. I see that Win 11 did the same to many people last November. Thus my move to Zorin - which would have been painless if my new C: drive had not failed. If I had been smarter I would have had a cloned C: drive to drop in. My NUCC has provision for two hard drives and I configured it for a system drive and a data drive. I am now going to have to get another system/program drive and keep it locked away. (Murphys law says if you have a clone you will never need it but the down side is every month you need to reclone the C to cover updates and new software).

Linux is quite user friendly nowadays. I have multiple friends using it on a day-to-day basis without having knowledge of computers. Installing a program is even easier on Linux as it's all provided in the AppStore like in Android. The times of having to know the CLI is long gone.

Biggest problem is not able to run specific software like Adobe and Games (although SteamDeck is about to change that). There are viable alternatives, but for the real power users, they might lack a bit compared to for instance Adobe (although DarkTable is by far superior to LightRoom imho).

I've been running Linux as a daily driver at home for the last 15 years or so and never ever had to boot into Windows for any reason. And believe me, Linux was not as good back in the day.

I never clone my system disk in Linux. I just keep a backup of my home directory (rsync to an external drive) and a list of installed apps from the repo. So if I have to do a reinstall, I just download the latest version, install it (takes 10 minutes or so) and run the script to reinstall the apps and I'm good to go within half an hour. Way more painless than having to clone the drive all the time.
I do put my Home directory on a different partition, so as long as the drive doesn't fail, I never have to put back the backup, which would add time.

I acttually trying to continue and complete the Python programming language. But no idea for what to do next. I'm more into gaming, rather than web design or app making.

Try Godot with GDscript. It's python-like but meant for developing games.

My brother used to be a pharmacist for CVS. The HQ would keep coming up with great ideas they had to implement. One was the idea that when a prescription refill was due soon, then they should go ahead and fill it and have it on the shelf when the customer came in. Trouble was, the customers often did not come in right away, which left the orders just sitting. And since they did not have enough drugs on hand to let a large portion of their inventory just sit around then they had to un-fill the prescription, doubling the work.

The weather looked excellent and I was looking forward to replacing the idle air control valve on my 1997 Toyota Celica. I acquired the new part and the required replacement hoses and set to work, only to find out that you have to remove the throttle body to get the idle air valve off. And in order to remove the throttle body you have to drain the coolant. And in order to drain the coolant you have to remove the Right belly pan. And in order to remove the Right belly pan you have to remove jack up the car and remove the Right wheel.

And when I removed the Right wheel I found that the CV Joint boot is torn. I knew the Left CV Joint boot was badly torn, and replacing it was the next task to complete after the idle mixing valve was replaced, and fortunately I bought the Right one also, but that is one more thing to do, in addition to replacing the motor mounts for both the engine rear and the transmission.

This is starting to look like a "after I get my income taxes done" job.
