The paper mill and the first mine I worked in afterwards were firm believers in zero inventory. If it wasn't a critical part, it wasn't stocked. The hot shot companies made a fortune. In the last mine I worked at, my grader was down. My relief broke two connectors for hydraulic pressure sensors. They found one connector in Washington state and one in Alberta. The foreman was about to get on the phone to hot shot them into camp and I asked him why he didn't take them off the grader that was down for an over-haul out in the yard. He just stared at me and I walked away

My last years with Eastman Kodak had a parts inventory system that included what we carried in our trunk (boot). If the computer showed no useage in 6 months, we were to scrap it. Some high value items were to be sent back. Quantity was controlled by computer. If we had a stock of one, we will often need two the same week. Often just after sending a part back, it would be needed. This meant a P-1 parts order (over night) which counted against our personal parts management, opposed to a P-9 standard snail mail order. It took ten P-9 orders to equal one P-1. Some guys would order ten washers individually to balance their P-1 order. My personal solution was to scrap the part, keep it at home (avoids surprise parts inventory inspection) and if needed, it came from home. This left a minus 1 in the computer, while a standard P-9 order, plus 1, cancelled the parts inventory problem. Some of this silliness came from New York state having an inventory tax which covered what we had in our cars in other states.
As you can see, shipping costs increased if we used the system as EKCo wanted. I need not point out that Eastman Kodak went bankrupt and out of business. This was only one of the very many reasons.

In USAF Logistics Command they used a similar approach. One day they wondered about a pretty big crate in a warehouse at Tinker AFB. They opened it and found what looked like a wing. Checking records showed no orders for that National Stock Numbered item. They figured it was a wing to fit some kind of obsolete jet fighter. So they surplussed it. A guy who lived across the street from the South side of the base bought it for the value of scrap aluminum.
Then the C-135 program office found out that the item was a spare horizontal tail for a KC-135. It was the only one in the world and the part was no longer in production. If a truck hit the tail of a KC-135 then that airplane was effectively gone. The only other potential spare was on a wrecked KC-135. So they bought the crated spare back from the the guy across the street, with a hefty profit for someone who just kept it in his yard for a few weeks. That was all that guy did, buy stuff from the government and then sell it back to them when they found out they had screwed up; he had NOT FOR SALE signs on the items on his property.

We had the same crap here in Qld a few years back. Volunteer fire fighters give their time to save lives and properties. They should not have to waste their time and money to go to a stupid training program to get certified as safe to be around children. Even worse this training and the annual renewal of their "qualification" cost them money.
What sort of a @#$%^&* moron comes up with the idiotic idea that a firey who is busy fighting a wildfire or blazing house will stop doing fighting the fire and molest a child while the house or area burns down around them. If brains were gasoline these morons would not have enough to start a cigarette lighter.
We lost half our local brigade, and they were forced to merge with another depleted brigade, (and cover both areas) because of this crap.
The government should be supporting these local heroes - not forcing them to resign.

If there was any evidence of any fire fighter molesting children when at a fire I would agree with you but, as of two years ago, there was not one fire fighter who had been caught molesting a child. I doubt that has changed.
The worst offenders are teachers (one here recently charged with molesting over 1500 kids over a number of years) and police. Teachers and police do not need this training (but would be paid if they had to undergo it) and do not need this qualification.
And I bet that if they were forced to get this qualification their costs would be refunded in full.

Just imagine if those pro-terorism activists and terorists in Australia, or any othet country, were dealt with, as such as the teror regime in my country had done to protesters. Those parasites have to be dealt with, with extereme brutality, disregarding any and all laws of war, local laws, or anything else. There is no forgiveness for glorifying terorism, betrayal or treason, only way to deal with these, is execution.
