Fuel prices and flooding.

Yesterday we went to Bundy using our usual route and coming home the Cedars bridge was under water again requiring a 60km detour. We are doing roughly 200km every day for my wife's chemo and radiation so really did not need that.

This is the last three days prices at the cheapest servos in Bundy. For those in the one country not using litres multiply by 3.785412.

Theoretically fuel costs will now drop because the government has halved the fuel excise. The prices went up from $1.65 to $2.13 four days before Trump attacked Iran but are predicted to take weeks to drop.

So tonight I started to gather up all my spring camoflage clothing for turkey hunting. Found 4 really nice light weight camo gloves, problem is they are all left handed and I have no clue where the righties are.
I suspect one of my hunting buddies has the same issue, only he has 4 right handers...

Looser that took the last cup of coffee from the coffee maker at work and did not bother to brew a new pot.
I'm tempted to put a note of the coffee pot stating when no coffee comes out of spout that means it is empty! Won't make a difference though so I don't bother.

This procrastination that has kept me from finishing my work. It's due soon, so I should have done it sooner. Self-imposed annoyance.

COVID-19, the Chinese Wuflu, annoyed me AGAIN.

I was doing the annual wing inspection on my Ercoupe. And in the section ahead of the main spar, in the middle of the leading edge I found a rat's nest. Unheard of!

I camr to realize that the nest was placed there after I came down with COVID 19 on 6 Jun 2025. For about two months after that, June and July, I visited the hangar very few times because I was too sick to do so, and for the next couple of months I was there not very much, either. As the airplane sat, no one stopping by, the rats dismantled the remains of a sheepskin set cover I had in the hangar and built a nest in the wing. I saw or smelled no other evidence of the rats so I guess they were scared off when I made my usual daily visit and possibly even jumped overboard during a flight. I have been told that Bounce dryer softening sheets act as a repellent and I'll be putting some of those in the wings.

I had to repair an Ercoupe wing in 68 that had a mouse nest that had corroded out a lump of spar just outboard of the gear.

The owner heard a rattle in the wing while moving it out of the parking bay and came to find why. A repair had been done previously in the same area and some of the rivets were left out. The rattle was a corroded cleco fastener. The large repair shop who had done the repair paid.

I just spent the most delightful part of my morning trying to do something which should be very simple.

Back in February I noted that I still had an account at the Pentagon Federal Credit Union that had about $1K in it. I wrote them a letter and asked that they close out the account and mail me a check for the money. Well, here it is almost May and I have heard nothing from them.

So I called them up and eventually got someone that admitted they had the letter but had not acted on it. They needed verification of who I was and my home address, despite the fact they had been sending statements to that address for years. They said that they would send a link to my cellphone that would enable me to verify who I am and where I live. I got the link but using it would have required I link my cellphone to my home WiFi and then go through the process that way. I had no interest in doing more useless work and asked if I could do it on my computer. They said they cannot do that.

I asked if I could go to a branch office and do it in person there; they said yes. Finding a list of branch offices was surprisingly difficult on the PFCU webpage, since Windows 10 would not let me access the data without going through some stupid rigamorell but I finally gave up and did a separate Internet search. Ah, yes, PFCU has a branch in Bartow, FL, only 108 miles away, in a community where there are no roads that have anything approaching a direct route. I'd first have to go to either Orlando or Vero Beach.

They said alternatively I could provide pictures of my ID cards and a copy of a utility bill to prove my identity and my address. Ahem, the utility bills are all paid automatically or on line now.... Except for the water bill, the last of which I had thrown away after paying them. Well, I paid the last water bill in person and have not the bill itself but the slip you send in with it. So I will try that.

I sure do appreciate how these modern innovations have simplified our lives!
