What would you like to be on a B-17 or B-24

Certainly not the tail or ball turrets, the thought of being stuck in there for hours is scary. Wouldn't really fancy the front knowing how many were attacked head on. So I'd go for the dorsal turret where you had a chance of fighting back and getting out

Either one - as long as it was over the Caribbean doing sub patrol duty. Pilot of course flying it with my Hawaiian shirt and my 50 mission cap!

I've flown in both. I found the B-24 to be a better flier in my opinion. Since I'm a pilot, I wouldn't mind either actually.

I've heard some say the B-24 was a better flyer than the B-17 until you loose an engine or get some holes in the wing....

Luckily thats something I didn't have to worry about. The B-24 tended to catch fire quick... something I would chose to avoid at any cost.

I'm just glad there were folks 60+ years ago who flew both.

I have an Uncle who was a B-24 bombadier - he never went overseas due to an accident but did talk about the fuel leaks....
