Sopwith Snipe rather than Camel. Barker was a Snipe pilot as well, a section of the aircraft in which he earned his Victoria Cross is in a museum in Canada.

I agree. It is enough to have a close up look at the tail. The fin is the very characteristic one for the Snipes than Camels.

But only the early Snipes...later ones had a more conventional fin. Agree, though, that's definitely a Snipe. Another of my favourite WW1 aircraft.

You can also tell by the two-bay wing. The Camel's was single bay.

B2404 Built by Ruston, Proctor & Co Ltd, B2402 was modified into 'Comic' configuration for Home Defence and as such was flown by Capt George Henry Hackwill, a former FE2b pilot with No 22 Sqn with two victories to his credit, who after a stint as a flight instructor was assigned to No 44 (HD) Sqn as a flight commander. On the night of 28-29 January 1918, Hackwill, in concert with Lt Charles Chaplin Banks in B3827, brought down Gotha GV 938/16 at Wickford.
