My Dad was in Army Air corps in texas. repairman on B 17, B 24 etc. I have a picture of a plane related to him but don't know what it is.
Not a good picture for me to ID but if someone knows it I would appreciate ID. Thanks

Definitely a B-17E or later (or derivative like the RB-17, SB-17 and VB-17) and it should be possible to track down the unit, or even the specific aircraft, from the unusual emblem. It does not blow up well but looks like a #3 in a roundel of some sort. Maybe a 3 in a snooker ball?
Try some of the B-17 specific sites like History of the B-17 or The history of the B-17 | B-17 Bomber Flying Fortress – The Queen Of The Skies but please let us know what you find

It's possible that it's a C-108, as it has the later tail but no waist position or upper/lower turret.
The earlier B-17s had a "dustpan" gun position, angular horizontal stabilizer and blister waist positions (which the B-17 in the photo also lacks).

To me it actually looks more like a B-17E with the waist window hatch(es) closed and the turrets removed.

The national marking is in the unusual location of behind the waist position the hatch of which has the early narrow vertical form.
