Hey you guys….. hope everything is going well with you all !!!

Well, I just finished another model build and I thought you might want to take a look at it.

Xuntong 1/48 scale Russian Ilyushin IL-4T. This was a Russian medium bomber used in WWII. How many of you have even heard of this plane? Tough build.

Anyway, the build is up on Google photos now.

Link: Russian Ilyushin IL-4T Medium Bomber Build: (09-22-2024 thru April 2025)

Remember, you can click on any of the photos and view in another larger window with black background. And if you want to go back to the the "story pages" just "X" out of the Black Bkg. view/window.

From this link you can go ahead and leave your comments on the build and production of the web page if you want.

See what you think.

Wonderful job, I could never do that by myself. Nevertheless, there are some critical remarks:
1. The IL-4T designation did not exist.
2. The presented IL-4 "58 white" belonged to the 10th Guards Aviation Bomber Regiment of Long Range Aviation (also known as the 226th Guards Stalingrad Red Banner Regiment in 1944), they were not torpedo carriers and operated exclusively on land fronts, only at the very end of the war bombed ports in the Baltic. Emblems of destroyed ships on them could hardly appear.
3. Three stars of the Hero of the Soviet Union behind the gunner's turret - this is incredibly boastful. Just three small stars - perhaps, but three such heroic stars is hard for me to imagine. But if you can confirm with an appropriate photo, I would appreciate it.
4. The pilot's canopy looks different in the drawings and photos. The front half of the sliding part top was transparent, the vertical strut in the sliding part is very small, almost invisible.

4. ... the vertical strut in the sliding part is very small, almost invisible.

Actually there wasn't any vertical strut. It is the optical effect of two flat glasses overlapping at the narrow area at their edges. One of the glasses is fixed while the second one is movable. The same effect can be noticed for the Bf 109E3 and E4 cockpit hoods. The effect is more noticed for planes used for longer time because of a dirt gathering there or the bad quality of the "glass" used.

Absolutely right, I was inattentive - I posted a picture of Minakov in the cockpit where you can see it all clearly.
As far as I know, such a camouflage scheme was only used by regiments of the Long Range Aviation (Russian abbreviation ADD), which bombed mostly at night. The Il-4s of the fleet aviation regiments had a different scheme.

in addition. I suppose that IL-4T designation was invented after the war, no matter what Russian-language Wikipedia claims. But I am ready to change my point of view if I see a wartime document with this designation - so far I have not come across any.

Also I agree. The model presents the mix of the decal markings and the camo that is not too acurate. But it is finished now and there is no reason for running atilt. The final appearance is excellent. Reesche may be proud of the model. I have seen much worse although correct in many levels.
