Not many people have heard of the Koolhoven FK58 but its a plane that has always interested me that could have been better known with a bit of luck and more time to perform. Koolhoven F.K.58 - Wikipedia.
I have had this kit for a while its a short run kit made in the Czech Republic but designed in France. Like a lot of short run kits the instructions arent brilliant and this kit has few locating pegs or grooves for parts so for example the seat position is a guess and I hope I dont need to get the Razor saw out to move it. I think its going to be a case of glue then hope.
The resin Hispano Suiza 14 cylinder radial is nicely moulded I have primed it and when the primer is dry I will add pushrod tubes from 0.45mm brass wire.
The engine is supposed to glue into the cowling but as with a lot of this kit there's no location to glue to. So I glued a block made of plasticard to the firewall then epoxied the engine in place and used the cowling to align the engine. I also opened up the cowling with some rolled up Emery paper as the hole at the front was way too small.
Now the hardest part of modelling I have glued the undercarriage legs and the horizontal stabilisers and I have to walk away and not touch till they have set. The stabilisers like everything else in this kit had no location pegs so I had to drill and fit brass reinforcement wires.
The u/c legs don't have much support either and I think I will fit some reinforcement wires by drilling down from the top.
