JASDF junked half a dozen of F2B trainers by tsunami in 2011.
They were watching the tsunami coming for an hour on the roof doing nothing.
School master excused "I heard it was only half an hour before the wave coming and we had no enough time to check the 3,000 meters long runway to let trainers fly to evacuate". The F2B needs only 300 meters to take off !

Mitsubishi wanted to develop its original plane for F-2 with the canard wing but the government requested Mitsubishi to develop based on F-16 to make the costs double. Half of the budget was royalty for Lockheed Martin

Beautiful camouflage and special colours on some and I really like the T-2, might have to get one of the Hasegawa 1/48 kits...
