From Wilhelmshaven to patrol the southern North Sea.
U-13 returned to base 31/08/39....
2. 02/09/39
Left Wilhelmshaven on a minelaying operation off Orford, Ness, where mines where mines were laid on the 4th. One of these mines sank the SS Magdapur (br 8641t) and the SS Phyrne (fr 2660t) on the 10th and the 24th of September respectively and damaged the SS City of Paris (br 10902t) on the 16th.
U-13 returned to base 06/09/39....
3. 11/09/39
Left to operate against British naval forces. Crossing the North Sea on the 12th, on route to her operational area in the Firth of Forth. There U-13 picked up the crew of a German aircraft which had been ditched in the North Sea. During the latter part of this patrol U-13 operated off the northeast coast of Scotland.
U-13 returned to Kiel 03/10/39....
