That's a good question. I am not entirely sure. It would make a great research question that's for sure especially since you see it on both the Bf-109 and the Focke Wulf

The heart was used by JG 54 on multiple aircraft and guessing as George pointed out the 13 was his personal good luck number.

Seen his machine has been done as 'White 8' and 'Yellow 8'....which is correct?

Jan, are you talking about the Bf-109 in post 5141. The top picture with your question on yellow 8 or white 8 have double chevrons and not a number?

Sorry was still thinking you where originally comparing the Fw-190 green heart with the bf-109. Not sure on the number. Wojtek where are you as he probably knows for sure LOL.

Three different machines, or?

The top one has 43 kills, the second has 30 and the third....30 as well. So is the two lower ones the same bird, they've just interpreted the '8' differently?

Couldn't find anything on this one. Google Translate caption says, "Ozaki Mitsuyoshi Ekishi's boarding machine "8-13" issue. This aircraft had not been sent to the United States and remained in Saipan's first (athlete) airfield."

The problem with the Bf 109Fwith the "8" is that the pic I have seen is too blurry and it couldn't be sure if it was the white or yellow number. Also applying of the "13" at the Green Hertz" emblem can be discussed. However it may be more likely.
