The BuNo is bogus. This is a real serial of an F9F-8 "Cougar", not of a "Panther" - check here. I remember a discussion of this anomaly years ago on WIX, but didn't follow up for more information ever since. BTW as a rule of thumb, BuNos of Panthers start with 12.
If someone knows the true identity of this bird, "Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace".
