I'm glad you posted that Chris, not for one minute did i believe these breaks were for "hydration", even if they are needed in some games.The average American attention span can't survive 45 minutes without a commercial break.
In Europe they continue the broadcast and commentary of the game during the hydration break.
But when taken in air-conditioned stadiums it kind of hints what they are really for.

They do the hydration breaks in Europe too. I saw it while watching the Champions League Final in Germany a few weeks ago. They just don't cut to a commercial during the break like they are here.
