I do not have this book yet, but I had long since assumed that any "new" books on the Doolittle Raid were merely an endless repeating of what we have already heard. But this might be something totally new, written by the flight surgeon that accompanied the raid.

There are a couple of new books on the subject written by a new member G Geert and he has posted about them during the last week. He is working on more books on the subject which is more about the escapes from China and what happened to those who escaped.

I just got given a whole lot of scans and PDFs of the RAF magazine Tee Emm to try and compile in order and as a single document. I think by year is probably more workable but we will see and I will post them here.

The famous Pilot Officer Prune originated in Tee Emm and was a central character. The original purpose of the publication was to encourage people to read their technical manuals by using entertaining summaries and including reader feedback. Tee Emm was short for Technical Memorandum.

Went over to the Temora Aviation Museum at Temora, New South Wales, today for the first of their Aircraft Showcase Days for 2026.

As always I had a quick look at their little shop and to my great surprise they had copies of the very recently released book by The Mosquito AIrcraft Association of Austraia - The de Havilland Mosquito An Australian Tribute. This one is a bit of a rarity as it has been published by the association as a limited run, and copies have only been available from a limited number of sources - largely a number of Australian Aviation museums with links to the Mosquito and the Association.

So this one is definitey a SCORE! Hardcover, about A4 page size, 490 pages, good size print, lots of original photos, some great aircraft profile artwork by Australian aviation artist Juanita Franzi, technical diagrams, details of Australian production of the Mosquito, the RAAF units that operate them, some local non airworthy Mosquito restorations, reminisences of those who built, maintained and flew the Mosquito, and more.

Today's mail brought the rest of my order from Thrift Books.

Today's arrival, latest book out of the Avonmore Publishing stable. This time The Catalina Flying Boat in Australian Service during WWII by Don Williams. Usual 25cms x 18cms ( 10ins x 7ins) format, 132 pages, soft cover, printed on good quality paper, lots of photos, aircraft profile artwork, a nice, concise and readable history. Author Don Willaims, his previous Avonmore book was also a good one and covered the CAC Boomerang - here's hoping he does a few more of these "In Australian Service" books.

This book is way better than I thought it would be. It was too short to be a real "history of the Battle of Britain", even a second-rate one. However, the author had no intention of writing such a book. This book is about PERSONALITIES and just enough history of the BoB needed for context. The author takes a rather deep dive into the psychology of the main characters (especially Dowding), and also into some secondary characters. This book is a pleasure to read. Important note: The author almost assumes the reader has already read a history of the BoB and only includes enough information so that a BoB novice reader can follow the "narrative." (From time to time the reader can sense the hand of an editor wanting a more "popular" book by including details and explanations.) For most persons in our group who are BoB literate, this tome is like sprinkles on ice cream plus tart cherry syrup. The writing is delicious in many places. His psychological observations of Dowding are the most interesting I've read. Definitely worth the read, especially for us aviation+history nerds. On a scale of 0-10 this books gets an 8 from me. With regard to the crowd on this forum, this is one time I can recommend to them a book by saying: I dare you not to like it.
