Bought this a while back and finally started looking at it. I have found that the book not only describes the Merlin development but also has a relatively brief but fairly thorough description of each type of aircraft the Merlin powered and there are some surprises there, at least for me.

I was somewhat disappointed that the use of the Merlin in the Canadian version of the DC-4 was not described; I guess that was because it was not a WW2 story. Whether the Merlin was a better engine than the P&W R-2000 for transport use is something of a controversy.
