Yeah, Russia is notorious for saving face at any cost.

The saga of the Moskva is a classic example.
First, it was just a "smoking accident".
Then it was an "operational error with minimum casualties".

When verification came in that the Moskva was critically damaged, they posted photos of the "Moskva" heading to port, except it was old footage of her sister ship.

And if that weren't enough, they held a publicized ceremony for the "crew", where the entire crew was awarded a medal of some sort for their heroic action against the nefarious cigarette.

Putin's pride and distrust cost the lives of those sailors trapped in the submarine Kursk. I expect the public outcry from that incident has convinced Putin to strictly control what Russians are allowed to know about this "ten day" special military operation.

Russia does seem to be stretched to breaking point at the moment.

The latest reserve (25th Combined arms Army) that only reached Ukraine in August has already started to be deployed in September, but not in a strategic reserve role, but to plug gaps in the defence.
It has 25 operational components and two are deployed in defence. Ukraine has reported that all Russian counter attacks have failed and the attacking units are taking heave casualties. The truth about the casualties we clearly cannot confirm or deny, but the UK MOD point out that by deploying its reserve in such a piecemeal manner it makes it difficult to impossible for Russia to launch a concerted counter attack.
 
Apparently, the Russian culture ministry is unamused that its populace is queuing to watch pirated versions of the Barbie movie.

The Kremlin says Barbie is "not in line" with Russian values. Cinemagoers don't seem to mind.

Got to wonder how bad your world view has to become so that (a) people queue to watch Barbie, and (b) their government is trying to stop them!
