A video from Gulf War 1 included an interview with a helo pilot about his wire guided TOW missiles. On one launch, his range finder indicated the target was beyond range of the wire of his missile by about 300 meters. The missile's wire ran out at 3000. He elected to fire as it was his last missile and he was low on fuel. He said he watched the missile go, and go, and go past the wire limit and hit the tank. His comment, "I want to thank the worker who put the extra wire on that spool."

That was a limitation with the earlier Sagger missiles. The range of earlier types was already around 3000 metres but the ability
to keep the missile on track reduced dramatically as the range lengthened and the system required highly trained operators.
In the Yom Kippur war, Israeli units learned quickly to use artillery to suppress launch sites while armoured vehicles would
fire into the ground to their front to make a dust screen.

The early versions also took a while to get up to speed so there was a dead spot up to the first five hundred metres or so which
was to be covered by the RPG's.

This disadvantage could be turned into an advantage. The Swingfire was designed so the controller could be some distance from the launcher. As a result the carrier vehicle could be safe and out of sight, whilst the controller could be well hidden/dug in firing the missiles.

Yes, that came around three years after the Yom Kippur war so somebody in Britain must have taken notes.
The Swingfire as it is named could do a rapid turn up to 90 degrees after firing which would quickly bring
it past the operator in line with the target as Glider has posted, which is why the launcher could be completely
out of sight.

ROME, March 9 (Reuters) - Pope Francis has said in an interview that Ukraine should have what he called the courage of the "white flag" and negotiate an end to the war with Russia that followed Moscow's full-scale invasion two years ago and that has killed tens of thousands.

Francis made his comments in an interview recorded last month with Swiss broadcaster RSI, well before Friday's latest offer by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan to host a summit between Ukraine and Russia to end the war.

[...]

In the interview Francis was asked for his position on a debate between those who say Ukraine should give up as it has not been able to repel Russian forces, and those who say doing so would legitimise actions by the strongest party. The interviewer used the term "white flag" in the question.

"It is one interpretation, that is true," Francis said, according to an advance transcript of the interview and a partial video made available to Reuters on Saturday. It is due to be broadcast on March 20 as part of a new cultural programme.

"But I think that the strongest one is the one who looks at the situation, thinks about the people and has the courage of the white flag, and negotiates," Francis said, adding that talks should take place with the help of international powers.

"The word negotiate is a courageous word. When you see that you are defeated, that things are not going well, you have to have the courage to negotiate," Francis said.

You should probably stick to your otherworldly concerns, Frankie. You don't seem to understand real-world imperatives, such as avoiding torture, repression, and tyranny.

The "Peace at any cost" argument put forward here and by others (including some senior political leaders) has to be ceased. Imagine the argument being used as people are led to the gas chambers...
