There were several factors at play in February 2022:Yes. It has been repeated again! The opportunity was lost in early February-2022. Putin should have been informed confidentially, that should he take military action, NATO would take military action. I don't care whether the NATO block was allowed by their constitution to do this or not, I'm only saying that was the best opportunity. I realize most on this thread will disagree, but that's my opinion. I don't see how Ukraine wins this now.
This is true. Remember, the first "aid" offered was a free flight into exile for Zelensky. There were several factors at play in February 2022:
First was the assumption that Russia was a competent, well organized and well trained military.
Secondly, with the above in mind, everyone was afraid of "escelation" with Russia.
To add to the above, was the assumption that Ukraine would not last three weeks against Russia.
I remember all of that. All of us here watched it unfold. Sometimes, you just have to grow a pair. Putin calculated the west would do nothing and he was right. They didn't.There were several factors at play in February 2022:

I will not lie, if I were younger and my body not broken all to eff, I would have gladly gone over and signed up.Agreed. I bought into all three points you make here, as can be seen in the first few pages of this thread; I thought that it would be a kickover.
Ukrainians have shown a fierce independence that commands my respect -- completely aside from my contempt for Russian bullying. They're some fightin' sonsabitches and I don't mind a tax dollar here or there to help folks so willing to fight and die for their own freedom.

Those Ukrainians are some amazing people, without a doubt.
Слава на Украйна !!
Unfortunately, Canada punches well below its weight.
That while lot of doing nothing (in excess of $400 Billion and counting) certainly has helped give Putin a bloody nose. While I strongly believe more should be done and faster, to say that "the west would do nothing and he was right" is disingenuous.Putin calculated the west would do nothing and he was right.
