As an F16 pilot said in a different group, "you go in fast and leave even faster". The A10 was designed for the battlefield from 50 years ago. Technologies have advanced and the A10 is to slow to survive for long.Well, then if today's modern air defenses are that impressive, then the F-16 is off the table, too.
So now what?
It's still to slow. And that cannot be fixed. The A-10C has evolved considerably since it was introduced.
Just like the F-16 has over the past nearly 50 years...
A-10C Thunderbolt II
The A-10C Thunderbolt II is the first Air Force aircraft specially designed for close air support of ground forces. They are simple, effective and used against light maritime attack aircraft and allwww.af.mil
Ya know, they don't operate alone.....It's still to slow. And that cannot be fixed.
I suppose I may be pointing out the obvious, but the A-10 was designed to fight in an environment that currently exists in Ukraine and ironically, against many of the weapons that are currently being used...It's still to slow. And that cannot be fixed.
And?Ya know, they don't operate alone.....
Errr...no. Some were sold to Canada. Most were planned to be sold to the Private company mentioned in that article but the deal fell through Some are being put on display (see below) and the rest will probably end up being scrapped. A bunch of spares have already been sold off to other Hornet operators too. Can't help but think the Aus government is holding onto these in case of war with China.
Isn't that the same battlefield that both sides are actively operating the SU-25, Russia's attempt at the A-10? If the Frogfoot can operate and survive, why not the Thunderbolt? As an F16 pilot said in a different group, "you go in fast and leave even faster".
