A while back, I noticed that included in equipment heading to Ukraine, were (an undisclosed amount) M60 AVLBs - which would not only allow crossing of streams and such, but also allow rapid breaching of Russia's extensive tank-trap networks.

"The Russian jet flew just in front of the nose of the Polish plane, crossing its trajectory at a dangerous distance, estimated by the crew at about five metres," Michalska said.

After three approaches the Russian jet flew away, Michalska added. The incident took place in international airspace.

They certainly will down NATO aircraft if they are not stopped. Most probably, it will be unarmed aircraft.
Just one example. In the pre-war (before 2014) period, the Russian Coast Guard (a branch of FSB) continuously harassed Ukrainian fishing boats in the Azov Sea. There was no legal ground for that since the Azov Sea has never been divided between RF and Ukraine in the post-Soviet era, so boats from both sides were not restricted from sailing anywhere. But RF Coast Guard enjoyed the power of their new patrol ships and threatened, stopped and extracted illegal payments from the fishermen. In the summer of 2013, just when Kremlin media started its propaganda offensive against the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, the number of incidents in the Azov Sea increased rapidly. And tragedy happened: RF patrol speedboat hit a Ukrainian fishing boat and overturned it. 7 fishermen drowned, and just one survived. Daytime, warm water, fine weather. Russian Coast Guard did nothing to help. They just watched and then pulled the only survivor from the water and placed him under arrest.

Attack helicopters do not seem to have much survivability in modern 2020s combat, with for example Ka-50/52s being shot down in droves. I'd rather the Ukrainian Air Force got the F-16s they're asking for. I wonder if the day of the manned attack helicopter is done, at least in full scale combat against a MANPADS-equipped enemy.
