So I prefer a couple of well chosen articles/clips over this.

But that's me personally. Not sure how other members see this.

I simply don't have the time to watch fifteen or so videos a day, and no way to figure out which ones are useful vs which ones aren't, so I scroll past them. I generally do that on any forum for videos that are posted without context or commentary from the poster.

Marcel , firstly, I want to thank you and the other mods (particularly DerAdlerIstGelandet ) for your patience with us on this challenging thread. You do an amazing job managing a thread that clearly sets emotions running.

I also think you do yourself a disservice. I can't recall a single post of yours that has been deliberately offensive or factually incorrect. You've always posted content that has sought to inform and enlighten rather than tear down.

I have no problems debating with people who think America should pull out of Europe, stop getting involved in international affairs, spend more money CONUS etc etc. I get frustrated when folk won't engage reasonably to discuss those topics, even when couched in historical precedents (e.g. appeasement, isolationism etc.).

The nub of the problem is that we're in an era of (to quote Rudy Giuliani) "alternative facts" and there's no willingness, in certain quarters, to even debate whether information is accurate or not. In this case, there was an article posted that was full of inaccuracies and misrepresentations. Efforts were made to point out the fallacies but instead of engaging in the discussion, Bill just turned and ran. We could have done a better job articulating our concerns with the content but, equally, there has to be a willingness by the other party to listen...and, frankly, they aren't.

My biggest fear for civilized society is that we seem increasingly incapable of discussing facts, let alone striving to find common ground. The internet has become a megaphone for people to scream their preconceived perceptions at ever greater volumes and, unfortunately, the sheeple are following blindly.

I fully agree with your sentiment on your last paragraph and agree quite a bit with the rest as well. And thanks for the compliment, it means a lot. The job in general is not always easy and only recently I tried to throw the towel. Only the team didn't let me…

But my point is this: we cannot control what the other side is doing. We can only control what we do ourselves. The only thing I am asking is to keep respect. This can be in small things, like adding "I think" to the sentence "you're wrong" and accept it if the other does not bend to your point of view.

If someone wants to run they will and there is no stopping them. We cannot force someone to listen.

I would add that I dofind it frustrating at times that many articles/videos have misleading, click-bait style titles which often detracts from the actual content. Alas, I can't change that

Fair question. I suppose I would offer the following:

• In the case of videos, not everyone absorbs information by just reading

According to research that I read in the early 90's people fall in to three or four roughly equal categories when it comes to learning, with reading, watching and doing being the three main methods and, for most people, hearing being a part of watching and doing. Combinations of those are a fourth and slightly lesser means of learning.

I am lucky in that I can usually learn from reading but in some things, until I convert that read knowledge in to physical action, I do not truly understand how an item goes together. For some things videos replace physical action for me.

I only watch 3-4 videos per week but I know that videos are a very important teaching aid for probably the majority of people.

I agree with this.

Lets please try and stay respectful to each other. Lets remember one thing, we may have disagreements about current politics, but we all share a brotherhood and love for aviation and WW2 history. Lets not ruin that.

That is the main reason I fight so hard to keep politics off this forum, and almost defend that militantly. The forum will be at a loss if members such as drgondog and Peter Gunn , and countless others who already have left leave because we cannot communicate peacefully.

And believe me I get the other sides argument as well. Calling liberals and social democrats communists is ridiculous, as they are no closer to being a communist in reality as a conservative republican is to being a fascist Nazi.

So I would suggest we all open our minds and hearts, and realize that just because we may think differently on somethings, nobody here is evil for it.

I also suggest we reign in the political discussions again. I understand that the topic of the Ukraine war cannot be discussed without politics, but think twice about what you post, and how you say it. Remember that the people reading the posts are not just a username on the web, but in fact our friends and fellow forum family members.

Outside of this thread the political ban is in full force outside of historical WW2 context.

And Marcel , you are going nowhere. You are my Dutch brother here. Besides the World Cup is coming up next year, we have to continue our friendly football rivalry.

This thread always has the most guests and I suspect it might be viewers from other sites that have had their Ukraine thread locked. I've seen a few. That we have survived almost 1900 pages is nothing short of spectacular.

I've never said it is. Read my post again, I said I would like this debate to be respectful and always remember that what's obviously false to you is not always so obvious for someone else. And to accept that one or two posts from you will probably not be enough to bridge that difference.
