Looks as if a number of the Russian nuclear forces are now being drafted in a foot soldiers. This must be very worrying for Russia as they would be the last people you would draft in. Even more concerning is that a number of them seem to have come from engineering and technical support units. I would have expected those people to have been sent to the repair and engineering bases.

I wonder if any got captured and interrogated ...

As Thumpalumpacus Thumpalumpacus said in post 37,902, Russia will draw this out as long as possible before rejecting it on some spurious grounds.

And before rejecting it he will get a large number of irreversible concessions from Neville Chamberlain.

It is a typical Moscow method: spreading myths about "encirclements" or other situations critical for the adversary and then playing them during negotiations. What is new that these myths are repeated and amplified by Washington.

In a recent analysis by the influential Russian Telegram channel "Voenniy Obozrevatel" (Military Observer), questions have been raised about the accuracy of claims regarding the full encirclement of Ukrainian forces in Russia's Kursk region.

The channel, known for its close links to Russian military sources, published maps depicting the actual deployment of Ukrainian forces. These illustrations contradict assertions of a complete encirclement. According to the analysis, "Those captured in small groups or individually were soldiers left behind to cover the withdrawal of main forces or those who became isolated at their positions after bridges and logistics routes were compromised."

Ukrainian soldiers fighting in Russia's Kursk region have described scenes "like a horror movie" as they retreated from the front lines.

The BBC has received extensive accounts from Ukrainian troops, who recount a "catastrophic" withdrawal in the face of heavy fire, and columns of military equipment destroyed and constant attacks from swarms of Russian drones.

The soldiers, who spoke over social media, were given aliases to protect their identity. Some gave accounts of a "collapse" as Ukraine lost Sudzha, the largest town it held.

Ukrainian restrictions on travel to the front have meant it is not possible to get a full picture of the situation. But this is how five Ukrainian soldiers described to us what had happened.
